Game Plan week 4

Week 4
This week I plan to focus on the one concept of e-portfolios. The school year is coming to end and I have found all my efforts going into portfolios that is requirement for our school district. The portfolio consist of 4 years of works produced by the students, in addition to many other documents. I support the portfolio strategy and believe it a vital aspect to graduation and beyond. The question that has risen, is the process to which we expect of students to complete the portfolio. My school district expects our students to maintain and protect their portfolio for their entire high school career. Well, let's just say this has not been very successful. It never seems to fail the students are scrambling to complete or locate their portfolio.
My game plan this week is to present the e-portfolio idea during our weekly PLC meeting which consist of 11 CTE teachers. We all share the same frustrations this time of year as the current expectation at our school is not using technology to its advantage. My game plan is to provide this diagram and explain the use of "new" technology and its place in our school. I have learned that technology can provide a foundation for student success.

  2. Hi Delbert,

My own children have portfolios but the school keeps them. I suppose they are kept in the guidance or main office. The portfolios travel with them from school to school. The district handles the portfolios by having extended homeroom a few times a year for students to work on them. They need to fill out justification forms for inclusion in the portfolio. It would be much easier to complete digitally. One of my daughter's teachers lost all of her justification sheets and she had to redo them all. This would be much less likely to occur if they were digital.

Did you get to present the e-portfolio idea? If so, how was it received? I think it is a great idea!

  3. I think that the eportfolio is a great way to maintain the records of student learning. How are the eportfolios used by your school? Are they evaluated for promotion/graduation? I would be curious as to what happens if the student can not locate their portfolio - Do they just start over?

I would be curious as to the reaction to your presentation... Did you meet with a lot of support or resistance?
