Reflection

The GAME that was created for this course has instilled and directed my efforts more fluidly. In the area of education we must always be perpearing and reparing our efforts. The GAME was an avenue that has shown results of effectiveness when followed. The GAME plan I created was not bulletproof. The biggest obstacle I faced was rely and depending on other teachers, who did not give a hoot. I felt like I had an agenda and they were there to collect a paycheck. Therefore, an adjustment was made, I focused on myself and trying to achieve my goals with my own efforts and not relying or asking any of my colleagues. This statement sounds bad but it is reality.

The GAME plan has focused my efforts in more efficent way. I believe the GAME sets goals that can be obtained and are reasonable. There was alot learned by the GAME process.

Game Plan week 4

Week 4

This week I plan to focus on the one concept of e-portfolios. The school year is coming to end and I have found all my efforts going into portfolios that is requirement for our school district. The portfolio consist of 4 years of works produced by the students, in addition to many other documents. I support the portfolio strategy and believe it a vital aspect to graduation and beyond. The question that has risen, is the process to which we expect of students to complete the portfolio. My school district expects our students to maintain and protect their portfolio for their entire high school career. Well, let's just say this has not been very successful. It never seems to fail the students are scrambling to complete or locate their portfolio.

My game plan this week is to present the e-portfolio idea during our weekly PLC meeting which consist of 11 CTE teachers. We all share the same frustrations this time of year as the current expectation at our school is not using technology to its advantage. My game plan is to provide this diagram and explain the use of "new" technology and its place in our school. I have learned that technology can provide a foundation for student success.

My game plan is focus on professional development and the never quit learning attitude. I believe this standard symbolizes what I need to do to improve. Most teachers believe they already know it all. Technology is ever changing and one cannot rest on old methods. The ability to stay updated on the new technology will ensure I have hit this standard.

My second area would have to be " 6. D. promote safe and healthy use of technology resources." There is a dark side to technology and it must be respected. As a new parent, I always wonder what the technology will look like when my son is in school. It is scary, knowing what I know now about the way some people abuse our great technology. I would say be able to teach my students the correct way to use resources (technology) safely, the better this world would be. This is a huge task as students use computers at home more then they do at the school. Hopefully, I can get this objective across.

Reflection - Information Literacy

Reflection/ Supporting information Literacy and Online Inquiry in the Classroom. In reflection, I have found this course has shown that 21st Century skills are necessary for future student success. The most striking piece of the course and implementing what I learn into the classroom, is that their are very few students who have 21st century skills in my teaching community. I have found that making the information relevent to them somehow is what is most important to get the show on the road. In the future, I plan to create situations for my students that will enable them to use the literacy skills that I have obtained through this course. Professionally, I plan to grow and continue my education as I can also learn something. If I keep this attitude I will not lack motivation of being up to date with the latest technology and skills necessary for success.

Personal Theory of Learning

In reflection of this course, I have learned many different "new " and exciting strategies that I can utilize in my classroom. Before this class begun I did not have the tools needed to provide my students with the skills necessary for the 21st century.

I have already begun to reach out to other teacher and build a strong technology base for our students. I have used blogs in my classroom setting that has created motivation from others to use this instructional strategy. In the school district it is very difficult to use technology. I have researched and persuaded my principal to allow more technology as it is NOT the devil. Blogs and Voicethread are two tools that have been implemented in my classroom and has already made a huge impact.

One long-term goal is enable my students to access computers more readily. I always have to seek and search for computers for my students to access virtual tours and Health blogs.

The first step for my goal to get students access to technology has been successful thus far as my principal is open to my suggestions. I also would like to change many of those teachers who do not participate with 21st century skills. It just does not make sense. This is a very difficult challenge for myself. This course is valuable and I an fortunate to have taken it.
